Well I hope everyone had a Blessed Easter weekend! Sorry I didn't post devotions over the weekend I hope and pray I am better at it as days go by.

A Proper Perspective

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12

In the sanctuary, in our communion with God, we gain a proper perspective of life.  As we thoughtfully read and meditate on the Word of God, His words, His precepts, become a measurement, a divine assessment for our own lives-our values, our desires, our behavior-and what we are to think and believe.

Prayers

Just got an email from Deb Nelsen and she is asking prayers for her mom Sarah Bryceson: She got bacteria in her eye from the shots they have been giving her for the macular degeneration.  There is real
good chance she may go blind.  Antibiotics have been given so I just pray they help.  Should know more tomorrow after lunch.

Thanks every one who showed up tonight for church service tonight!  I think Eric did a great job tonight! Remember Sarah needs our Prayers for healing of her eyes!

Today Jokes

Funny Church Notices for Easter

  • Baptisms: After Easter, the North and South ends of the church will be utilised. Children will be baptised at both ends.
  • Bible Study: Richard, my friend's little grandson came home from Sunday School and I asked him what they had studied.

His reply was, 'Nothing.' So I asked him, 'Didn't you study Jesus?' Richard's reply was, 'No, he wasn't even there.'
  • Come work for the Lord.  The work is hard, the hours are long and the pay is low.  But the retirement benefits are out of this world.

Winners

You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth.

Revelation 5:10

We belong to Jesus, and Jesus belongs to God! We have been made part of a kingdom of priests who will reign with Him when He comes to earth again as king of kings and Lords of lords. As children of God, we are winners, simply by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ!

God's Message of Victory

Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of  men, but for the will of God.

1Peter 4: 1-2

The cross takes care of the past.  The cross takes care of the flesh.  The cross  takes care of the world with its lusts and boastful pride.  The cross is God's means of victory. It is also the path of ministry.

Joke for the day

The Funny Story of the Taxi Driver and St PeterSt Peter Religious Joke

One Easter a priest and a taxi driver both died and went to heaven. St. Peter was at the Pearly gates waiting for them.
'Come with me,' said St. Peter to the taxi driver.
The taxi driver did as he was told and followed St Peter to a mansion. It had everything you could imagine from a bowling alley to an Olympic size pool.
'Oh my word, thank you,' said the taxi driver.
Next, St. Peter led the priest to a rough old shack with a bunk bed and a little old television set.
'Wait, I think you are a little mixed up,' said the priest. 'Shouldn't I be the one who gets the mansion? After all I was a priest, went to church every day, and preached God's word.'
'Yes, that's true.' St Peter rejoined, 'But during your Easter sermons people slept.  When the taxi driver drove, everyone prayed.'

The Untold End

Therefore you too have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.

 John 16:22

Suspended between heaven and hell, Jesus was taunted, rejected, cursed.  So much had been expected of Him.  So much proclaimed.  Yet there He hung-raw, beaten, bloody, gasping for breath.  He looked like a looser, but the end of His story hadn't been told....and neither, Beloved, has the end of your story or mine!

Matthew's House

Mondamin UMC Matthew's House Food Pantry: World-Transforming Communities of Faith

April 14, 2014 at 2:02pm
In the summer of 2010, a stranger stopped at the Mondamin United Methodist Church on Sunday morning, explaining that he and his family were traveling on I-29 on their way home to Minnesota. They had run out of money for food and the children were hungry. Church members collected resources from their home to meet this single nee, but they quickly realize that this one instance wasn’t an isolated event, that there were many people in the area that were going hungry. The church set up a meal delivery plan and volunteers cooked and delivered individual meals to those in need in the immediate area.

The church members quickly became aware that the need for food security was bigger than the capabilities of individual volunteers and single deliveries and Matthew’s House Food Pantry became fully operation in the spring of 2011. They started that first month with $800, 2,000 pounds of food and 200 people. Matthew’s House now distributes between 15,000-20,000 pounds of food per month and reaches an average of 735 per month.

Mondamin UMC’s Matthew House Ministry has become a partner for many other ministries and organizations in the area, and we lift them up as a World-Transforming Community of Faith for the positive impact this ministry has made in building up the community. Matthew’s House is supported by local United Methodist Churches, the West Harrison, Logan and Missouri Valley School districts, several large grocery stores in Council Bluffs, and just about every community organization that exists in Harrison County. This ministry not only provides resources for those facing food insecurity each month, but also a strong sense of community as both clients and volunteers often rejoice, mourn and pray together while packing groceries.

This ministry is partially funded by a Southwest District Matthew 25 Grant, which is part of the Iowa Annual Conference apportionments. The directors at Mondamin Matthew’s House share:
“Without the Matthew 25 grant funds, maintaining this ministry, especially at the number of those who need the help with food, would be problematic. These funds underlie all that we do and are pivotal in our being able to sustain this mission: ‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you invited me in.’ All in need are welcomed at Matthew’s House Food Pantry; all are given food and something to drink.”
